Electricity bills now need TIN/NIN, IKEDC says customers risk service suspension by Feb 20

The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has asked its customers to submit their identification details on or before February 20, 2026, warning that those who fail to comply risk possible service suspension.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the electricity distribution company said the directive is in line with the Nigeria Tax Law (2025), which took effect on January 1, 2026. According to the company, the law requires that all invoices, including electricity bills, must carry at least one valid identification detail.

IKEDC said customers can submit any one of these: Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or National Identification Number (NIN).

“To enable us to comply with this statutory requirement and reflect the information on your January 2026 and subsequent bills, we kindly request that you provide any one of the above details by completing the form below,” the company said.

“Please note that the deadline for submission is 20th February, 2026.

“In line with the provisions of the Act, any invoice issued without this information is considered invalid. Consequently, failure to provide the required details may prevent us from generating your electricity bill and could lead to the suspension of service after the stated deadline.”

The DisCo warned that customers who do not provide the details may be unable to receive electricity bills after the deadline, and that this situation could trigger service suspension.

IKEDC also thanked customers for their cooperation and urged them to submit the required information promptly to avoid disruptions.
